VBAC – Vaginal Birth after Caesarian

It is now recognised that VBAC for most situations is safer for the Mum and the baby. Women often need extra support to renew confidence in their body´s abilities to acheive VBAC normally and to work with their caregivers. We can provide information about Vaginal Birth after Caesarian with support during this time and have VBAC Educators experienced in this area.

Doula and Ancillary Birth support services

A Doula or Birth Support is someone who is experienced in childbirth and who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth. Research shows the support of a Doula can reduce the length of labour, the need for intervention and women are more likely to have a positive experience.

Respect

Doulas recognize birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life, and take special care to help create a positive experience for the couple and their new baby. Doulas also understand and respect the normal physiology of birth and the emotional and physical needs of a woman in labour.

Support

In the words of Dr Michel Odent, a world leading obstetrician and researcher “The most important thing is to protect the emotional state of a labouring mother”.
This allows her hormones of birth to be released in high quantities and labour and birth happens more safely, efficiently and more comfortably.

Continuity of care

Doulas stay by the side of the mother throughout the entire labour, which provides continuity of care that is not a part of the midwifes or obstetrician role. This is known to reduce the anxiety of a labouring mother and reduces the length of labour and the need for intervention.

Working Together

The role of Doulas by maternity hospitals and their caregivers is well accepted and appreciated. It helps to provide emotional support and nurturing that is often not possible to provide but recognized as imperative.

Our standard Doula and Ancillary Birth support Service includes: 2 x prenatal visits, phone support, labour and birth support, 1 x postnatal visit.

What Are My Birth Choices – 1 on 1 Information sessions

Birth Choices explains the importance of women feeling safe, comfortable and confident with her caregiver and place of birth during labour and birth is well documented and researched. It is essential a woman feels safe, nurtured and confident for her normal birth hormones to be released. If she feels inhibited and unsafe her “fight or flight” response will be activated which will slow down labour and create discomfort. In our My Birth Choices course, we can answer questions and give you information to help you make the choices that are right for you, such as Birth Centers, Doulas, Independent Midwives, Homebirth and Calmbirth® services.
